How Effective Brand Photography Helped Simone Mahoney Show Up Across Multiple Audiences

All my clients want to make sure their photographs will work as hard as possible. With all of us showing up across multiple platforms and in different contexts, creating a collection that allows for a broad scope is incredibly important.

As a criminal defence solicitor and Arbonne consultant, Simone Mahoney was more aware of this than most. Alongside her successful legal career, she had begun sharing more wellness content and building her personal brand online. But with her business evolving, she realised her imagery wasn't keeping up.

Simone wanted professional photographs that would work across both sides of her work – images that felt polished enough for LinkedIn while also standing up well in the lifestyle and wellbeing content she was sharing elsewhere.

Most importantly, she wanted photographs that she could use again and again.

The Challenge: Creating Images That Worked in More Than One Space

For Simone, this wasn't about starting something new; it was about levelling up. Like many business owners I work with, she'd relied on selfies and ad hoc photos for a while but had reached a point where she knew she needed more.

Simone wanted a collection of professional images that reflected both her professional credibility and her personality.

Then, of course, there was the additional complexity of an audience spanning two very different worlds; flexibility was important.

"I wanted photos that I could use for something very wellness-focused, but also professional enough to use on my LinkedIn page."

Planning a Shoot for Longevity

Right from the start, Simone was clear that she wanted variety. Rather than creating lots of images that all looked the same, she wanted a library of photographs that could be used across different platforms, campaigns and audiences.

Photos that would look like they’d been taken on different days in different spaces. This meant multiple outfits, different backgrounds and plenty of options.

For Simone, this wasn't about creating more work on the day. It was about making sure the images had a longer shelf life. She explained, "If you have lots of pictures in one outfit, they've got a very short shelf life."

So, when planning the shoot, we focused on making sure it would give Simone a versatile collection of images she would continue to use well into the future.

A Relaxed and Supportive Experience

I know that for many people, being in front of the camera can feel daunting. But Simone described the day of the shoot as enjoyable from the start.

"I enjoyed it. It was fun."

And she told me she particularly appreciated the calm, flexible approach we had throughout the shoot: "Liz made it really easy and worked with what I wanted."

Equally important was the preparation beforehand, helping Simone feel confident going into the session.  "I'm the sort of person who needs to know everything. Liz was very patient. She explained it really well."

More Than Just Beautiful Photos

One thing that surprised Simone was seeing the final images for the first time.

"When Liz is taking the photos, you don't realise how good they're going to come out…. Then you get them and think, 'Oh my God, she's done an amazing job.'"

Beyond the photographs themselves, Simone told me she’s also valued the care and support that followed the shoot. When there were a handful of images Simone wasn't completely happy with, we worked together to make sure she had a collection she loved. She told me that it was this attention to detail and the client experience that led her to return for a second shoot.

Creating a Library of Images That Keeps Working

Today, Simone uses her photographs across multiple areas of her business - Instagram, LinkedIn, newsletters, and all kinds of marketing materials. With her virtual assistant also having access to the image library, it's easy to create content and promotional assets whenever they're needed.

"If I ever need a picture, I've got one. I've got such a big pool to choose from."

Rather than being a one-off investment, the photographs have become a practical business asset that supports Simone’s ongoing marketing and visibility.

Photography That Evolves With You

Throughout my conversation with Simone, one thing stood out. Although she loved the photographs, what really stayed with her was the experience. It’s this that had Simone rebooking for a second shoot and feeling comfortable recommending me to others.

From taking time to understand exactly what she needed, to patiently working through outfit changes and planning the right locations, then checking she was happy with her final gallery, every stage of the process helped build trust. Simone talked about the little things that often get forgotten.

Perhaps that's why booking a second shoot felt like such an easy decision. As she said,

"Once you've done it once, the next time is so much easier."

Rather than starting from scratch, we were able to build on what we'd already learned, creating another collection of images that reflected the next stage of Simone's business.

For me, that's exactly what brand photography should be. Not a one-off box to tick, but an ongoing partnership that grows alongside your business.

For Simone, brand photography wasn't about reinventing herself. It was about creating professional, versatile imagery that reflected where she is now, supported the different sides of her business and gave her the confidence to show up consistently wherever her audience finds her.

Because that's the thing about growing a business. Every new chapter asks something different of you. Your audience changes. Your opportunities change. The way you show up changes too. Your photography should evolve with you, helping you step confidently into whatever comes next.
