How to Prepare for a Successful Brand Photoshoot

Getting ready for a brand photoshoot can be a really exciting step in growing your business. Your photos will show off who you are and what your brand is all about, so making sure your wardrobe and styling are spot on is essential.

As a stylist, I’ve helped loads of women prepare for their shoots, ensuring they feel confident, look amazing, and that their

outfits truly represent their brand.

Here are some relaxed, stylist-approved tips to help you get prepped for a successful brand photoshoot:

1. Define Your Brand and Message

Before you even start thinking about outfits, spend some time really pinning down your brand’s identity.

Why not start with a Pinterest moodboard?

What vibe are you going for? Polished and professional, or something more relaxed and approachable? Your wardrobe should reflect that. Think about your brand’s colours, style, and overall tone to make sure your clothes bring out the best of your brand’s personality.

2. Plan Your Outfits with Variety

Mix it up! Plan a few different outfits that work for different settings. Go for a mix of styles, from casual to more formal, depending on your brand’s needs. This gives your photographer the flexibility to capture a variety of looks and moods. Try everything on beforehand, and make sure you feel good in each outfit—because if you feel comfortable, it’ll show in the photos.

3. Choose Colours That Pop and Complement

Colours are super important for how you’re perceived in your photos. Go for colours that complement your skin tone and make you feel confident, while also keeping your brand’s colour scheme in mind. Solid colours usually work best on camera, as patterns can sometimes be distracting. If your brand’s got a specific colour palette, try weaving that into your wardrobe for a cohesive look across all your shots.

4. Get the Fit Right

Make sure your clothes fit just right. Baggy or tight clothes can be unflattering in photos, so if anything needs a tweak, consider getting your outfits tailored. A great fit not only looks good but also gives you that extra confidence boost, which will definitely come across on camera.

5. Don’t Forget the Little Details

Accessories can make a big difference. Simple pieces like a classic necklace, a chic bracelet, or the perfect pair of shoes can really elevate your outfit. Just don’t go too bold—anything that pulls attention away from you might be too much. When in doubt, stick to timeless accessories that complement rather than overpower.

6. Consider the Location

Think about where your shoot will take place and make sure your wardrobe works with the location. If you’re shooting outdoors, think about the weather and season, and choose clothes that suit the environment. For indoor shoots, make sure your outfit matches the vibe of the space. The location and your outfit should work together to tell a consistent brand story.

7. Hair and Makeup: Keep It Real

Your hair and makeup should align with your brand style too. If you don’t usually wear much makeup, don’t go overboard for the shoot—you want to feel and look like yourself. Whether you hire a professional or do it yourself, make sure the look matches the vibe you’re aiming for and feels authentic.

8. Try Everything On in Advance

Don’t leave it until the last minute! Try everything on well before the shoot, and make sure it all fits and looks the way you want it to. This also gives you the chance to see how your whole look comes together—outfit, accessories, hair, and makeup.

Take some mirror selfies so you can see how each outfit works on camera, and share them with your photographer so everyone is prepared and on the same page.

9. Trust Your Instincts

At the end of the day, you know what suits you best. Trust your instincts when choosing your outfits. Wear what makes you feel empowered and true to yourself. Your confidence and authenticity will come through in the photos, and that’s what will resonate most with your audience.

With a little planning and preparation, your brand photoshoot can be a huge success, resulting in beautiful images that truly represent who you are. Use these tips to feel confident and ready, and remember—your wardrobe is a key part of telling your brand’s story.
